Foxglove, tobacco and artichokes

I’ve started some seeds for my town garden.  So far I’ve only started three that need very early starts, foxgloves, tobacco and artichokes.

Foxgloves are enchanting and one of my favourites, thought I’m not quite sure that I’ve seen one in full bloom in person.  It’s been a goal for a while to have some in my yard.  These should bloom next year, maybe this summer if I’ve started them early enough. I ordered this from West Coast Seeds

Next the tobacco.  This is my first try with tobacco and my first time seeing seeds for sale.  I got these from Heritage Harvest (link).  My plan to grow them came after a discussion with a First Nations woman at work. My plan is to harvest and gift the tobacco for her use.  Another plan is to try and see if there is any growing in the forest. I got these seeds from Heritage Harvest Seed

I cut the pack and took the name to label the seed tray BEFORE I took a picture!

Last is artichokes.  I do like to eat artichokes even though they are a hassle.  Other gardeners have grown them for a treat in the same climate and growing zone as me.  I tried once before, but those seedlings were destroyed by a poor chippie who was stuck in my garden shed/seedling hardening off shed.  It was an act of stress and desperation, not malice.  I chose this variety for it’s blooms though, for the bees, so I’ll be happy even if I don’t get to eat any this summer.

I will be starting some more seeds this weekend, and updating more regularly during this growing and exploring season!
